The Fellows Program

Student from SEED Public Charter School on LSZ '08

LSI nurtures students to become tomorrow’s leaders. For our Fellows program, we select outstanding youth from across the city, pulling them from all walks of life. Over the course of the year, we groom them to become future social leaders and entrepreneurs. They learn to appreciate people different from themselves and to analyze complicated social and global issues. They learn directly from leaders at organizations that are making a difference in the lives of others. They learn how to introduce sustainable change by ultimately designing a life-changing solution to a social problem. And they graduate empowered. At the completion of the year, students enter into a world-wide community of young global changemakers, through Ashoka/Youth Venture. Having your student in this program brings recognition to your school as well as a new model of leadership into your school community.

I feel so much more empowered by the Fellows program. It wasn’t obvious to me at first, but I’ve recently noticed subtle but profound changes in the way I react to problems I need to solve.

The Trips Program

Send a teacher-student team on one of our LearnServe Trips—traveling next summer to Paraguay and Zambia. Your team learns first-hand about how important issues like hunger or poverty are addressed in developing nations. Following this perspective-shattering experience, your team reports back to you and shares their experience with your school community, determining ways to engage your school in responding to these issues and increasing international awareness. A returning LearnServe Trip team can advance your school’s mission in ways unique to any other experience.
