Imagine the power of 50 bags of food prepared for 50 kids each month — timed to arrive at the end of each month, just as their families’ food stamps benefits have run out.
LearnServe 2011 alums Sara Hou and Kimberly Blasey, both students at Holton-Arms, founded “Holton’s Kids” to support students at Horton’s Kids, an organization that provides comprehensive services to children in Washington, DC’s Ward 8. Sara, Kimberly, and their Holton team prepare nutritious foods, packed in reusable bags, which they deliver to Horton’s Kids each month.
They began their food deliveries in May, and have planned their third delivery for later this month. The team has received $250 in seed funding from LearnServe and Youth Venture to launch their organization.
