Day 7 – el 1 de julio

We’re leaving Isla Pucu today. We’ve only been here for 5 days but the way these people embraced us into their community was incredible and I feel like I have been part of Isla Pucu for much longer than a week.

The hospitality is amazing; they give you what you can’t afford and they sacrifice their own comfort for their guests. Even this morning I woke up to find that my host mother wanted me to leave with at least 10 oranges and a cup and silver straw to drink Mate from.

Here in Isla Pucu it doesn’t matter what you look like or if your clothes are dirty or clean. All that matters is that your a member of the Isla Pucu community.

I honestly have never met more caring, selfless, and incredible people. These words truly came to life when a 12 year old kid I had given my hat to earlier in the week gave me a bag with the money he had been saving up. After he gave it to me he started crying. The bond that I was able to form with him in such a short period of time was seriously amazing. I love the Isla Pucu community and I want everybody from Paraguay and The United States to know that Isla Pucu will always have a special place in my heart.
