LearnServe Jamaica 2016, Day 2: Me Being Here

Friday 6/24 – Today we traveled to Blue Mountain which is located near Kingston, it is 7400 feet high with a lot of high trees, butterflies and friendly people.

First we stopped at the Market to get supplies for the children that we’re going to be teaching later on. We also stopped to get Jamaican beef patties and coco bread which was AMAZING! On the way up the mountain was a rocky trip, very narrow roads, but the view was breath taking. Once we arrived to our destination, we met our host families and got comfortable. Every Friday the townspeople gathered at what they call “the Square” where food is served and music is played. This is a lot to take in but I’m looking forward to what’s to come next. When people come to Jamaica they usually go to the fancy resorts, but they haven’t seen the bigger picture. Me being here is a real eye opener.
