This day had a lot in store for all of us, and we were unsure how it would turn out.
We started our day with an enthusiastic visit to Twin Palm Secondary School, where our recently graduated fellows and the school management welcomed us warmly and provided a wonderful experience throughout the day.
The tour around the school was fascinating as we saw the classroom setup for a secondary school in Zambia and the special rooms they use for Home Economics and scientific laboratories. It was also nice visiting the school farm which included cabbages, onions and many other crops.
The visit to Kalulu Kreativez was the highlight of the day. Everyone, including the U.S. cohort, learned the traditional way of cooking in Zambia. We pounded mealie meal, groundnuts, millet, and chikanda, chopped vegetables without using a cutting board, cooked nshima, and prepared delicious vegetables with groundnut powder. The performances by Zangi were also a treat, as we had the chance to witness talent in dance, singing, and poetry, enjoying every part of it. Lastly, the whole LearnServe crew enjoyed Zambian locally made drinks (munkoyo and thobwa), which was a generous gesture from our hosts.
Given that most people’s intentions for the day were fulfilled and that many took more time than usual to reflect on the day, I can proudly say that the day was a success.
